“Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.” Luke 12:2-3 ESV.
Reflection: are you living with a secret?
As you probably have noticed, we are in the middle of massive revelations of government corruption. How money has been spent for decades on all sorts of activities that never was intended or approved, many of which are certainly immoral, and some possibly even criminal. We can even see how media has been paid off to push certain political positions, aligned with government.
And what is so fascinating to now watch is the various reaction from people to this news. While many are shocked and want to know more details, others choose to ignore the facts and instead attack the “messenger”. Attack those who are revealing this fraud and corruption, instead of wanting to hold those who did it accountable. It is mind boggling. But it is
the nature of secrets.
The web of secrets so elaborate that they really thought no one would ever find out. Deals made behind closed doors. Payments made, some even connected to horrific extortion schemes. And what we are watching is that those most guilty, tend to be screaming the loudest. Trying to desperately refocus away from their own involvement. Their secrets.
I am not trying to be political here, but it is a phenomena that we can all observe with our own eyes. But, it is also a good opportunity for each of us to do some honest self-reflection. Do we have any secrets, either currently or from the past, that we have tried to hide away? Things we have done, that we hope no one ever will find out about because it would cause significant damage? Or even currently involved in, when no one is “watching”?
Jesus reminds us today that there is nothing hidden to God. NOTHING. And, on top of that, any secret we are carrying will be revealed; not just quietly but “heard in the light” and
“proclaimed on the housetops.”
So why is this such an important topic? Why not have those secrets just stay secret? Let me ask you, who deals in secrets? Who deals in the darkness? It is the devil himself, because secrets will cause us to “cover up” by deception and lies, so that our secrets will remain hidden.
A secret is one of the favorite extortion tools of the devil.
And why would we give him that? Why make this journey harder than it already is? God already knows everything about us already, psalm 139. Instead of “living in the shadows” with a secret, always worrying if someone would ever find out about it, Jesus tells us that we can be free. That not only does he know about it, but he atoned for it. It cost him everything to bring us out of darkness into his light. To set us free. So, even if it is difficult, might even have some consequences for your “image” or your relationships, let’s fear God more and bring it all into the light.
““I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him! Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Luke 12:4-7 ESV.
